DBI Website UI design

Reflecting on my multi-role designer at the Developing Brain Institute (DBI) of Children's National Hospital, I take pride in my contributions as a front-end web developer and UI designer focused on enhancing the research team's website. My primary responsibility involves maintaining and upgrading the website to effectively recruit patients for various studies, thereby attracting more traffic. This collaborative effort with engineers and researchers has allowed me to play a crucial role in ensuring the website remains current and engaging.

Working process

One of the pivotal aspects of my role is utilizing HTML to maintain an updated and visually appealing appearance for the website. My journey into HTML began with guidance from an engineer on the team, who taught me how to read and edit HTML code using Visual Studio Code. The collaborative process later involved using Transmit 4 to push the website live under instructions of a back-end developer, enabling rapid updates and improvements.

Learnings

As a front-end web designer and developer, I've had the opportunity to closely collaborate with both engineers and researchers, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas and expertise. This collaborative environment has been instrumental in ensuring that the website not only meets the technical standards but also aligns with the goals of the research team.

The initial challenges of the project were met with determination, and as I became more familiar with the intricacies of HTML and the development process, the work transformed into an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Weekly collaboration with the engineer allowed me to not only maintain the website but also actively contribute to its evolution, implementing improvements and incorporating feedback from the team.

One thing I learned from the engineer is how to inspect a website's html language. Later I found this progress extremely helpful, as I can inspect any unique web design that I like and learn how to code that section from their html codes. This method helped me tremendously during my learning progress as a useful research method.
